Girls Night 2010

Girls Night was a lot of fun!
We hosted 17 girls from grades 7-10 from several of the Rochester parishes!
Our evening started off with a creative nametag making contest. After pizza and snacks the girls settled in to talk about issues facing teen girls. Our speaker was Lourdes faculty Michelle Weedman. Mrs. Weedman focused on the idea of image and challenged the girls to look beyond what the world is telling them and look to their creator for their true image!
After the talk we had Paige Allan, Mary Kay consultant lead the girls through a step by step makeup lesson. Girls learned about healthy skin care and enhancing the beautiful features they already have.
The night ended with a surprise game that was just a little bit silly. Marisol Rogriguez took home a Cold Stone Creamery gift card and was our winner for the Nametag contest and Mara Smith was runner up. Both took home Mary Kay samples.
Thanks to all students and parents who helped make this event a success. A special thank you to Michelle Weedman and Paige Allan for their time and energy!

Girl's Night

Saturday, February 20th
8 pm-11 pm
All girls grades 7-12

Join us for our first ever GIRL’S NIGHT at St. Francis! All girls in grades 7-12 are welcome to join us (and any friends can come too---just NO BOYS allowed!) This night will be all about girls. It’s a sleepover theme so wear comfy pajama pants and bring your slippers. Michelle Weedman, teacher at Lourdes High School, will be giving a talk about being a godly Catholic woman. We’ll also have special guests from Mary Kay who will share some fun make up tips and some girls will even get to try out the makeup. There will be good food, laughs and lots of talking. If you’re a girl you will LOVE this event. Join us and celebrate being a girl!

Cost: $3 (to cover cost of pizza and snacks)

All girls should wear comfy (but modest) sleepover clothes. There will be an opportunity to purchase Mary Kay items from our guest, but purchase is not required and will not be the focus of the evening. The focus will be on encouraging these young women to find support and fellowship in one another and have courage to live out their faith! (Oh, and we’ll have fun, too!)
Pick up permission forms in the gathering space or parish office. Request e-form:
All forms due Wednesday, Feb. 17th

Souper Bowl 2010

Here is an update of our Super Bowl of Caring Event written by one of our student participants:

"Last weekend, some of the youth of St. Francis Church pitched in to help those in need. The service we were supporting was called the Souper Bowl of Caring, a national event occurring during the Super Bowl weekend. All of the donations will help feed kids, adults, and families in the Rochester and surrounding community.

On February 6th our group asked patrons who walked through the doors of Hobby Lobby if they would donate money to the Channel One Food Bank. Most would give us a couple dollars, some coins, or even 20-dollar bills. We received many compliments on volunteering our services for such a great cause.

The combined total from all the groups who donated their time at Hobby Lobby and after mass at St. Francis Church earned over $1,000 for Channel One. Now that’s a lot!

We would like to thank the parishioners for their support and donations for the Souper Bowl and I would also like to thank Hobby Lobby for giving us their space to help out for a wonderful cause."

-Anna Haggerty, 9th grader, Pine Island High School

Thanks, Anna for a great summary! Our youth collected donations, are volunteering at Channel One, and helped with promotion of this event. Great work everyone!
